This weekend is Mother’s Day in North America. It is a time to say thank you to all mother’s that we know, but especially the one who gave birth to you or raised you. My mother was a mother for 13 years before I came along. I am the youngest  of 5 girls in my family and after me finally came a brother. With my mom having so much experience being a mother before I came along you would think she would know how to handle everything. No! I was a different kind of challenge. No one could have prepared my mother for what laid ahead of her when I arrived into this world on that Halloween day.

I had epilepsy when I was very young. My mother told me of when I went into a state of epilepticus where I had 25 grand mal seizures in a 24 hour period. I basically had a seizure fell asleep woke up and had another and fell asleep again and it continued for 24 hours. I can’t imagine what that would be like to see a young child going through that. I of course could not remember anything of that time. My mother was also raising 5 other children at that time and one of them being a baby brother 1 1/2 years younger than me.

I was also accident prone.  I should actually say that I still am but not as bad as when I was younger. I used to love climbing trees and doing lots of stunts that my siblings and friends used to do. But inevitably I would fall out of the trees or fall off a bike and knock myself out.

I sounded like a nightmare to raise but I am sure there was joy too when I reached different milestones. My mother said I was assessed one time that I would be good in math. She thought the woman was crazy that assessed me. The rest of the family was better in English and art so naturally I would be prone to be that way she thought. But lo and behold I did become good in math and have a analytical mind. I was a determined child and once I set my mind to something I went after it.

I guess that is why photography means a lot to me. I like the mechanics of it, but I like to use the art that I DID inherit from my mother, and have it show in the photos I take. I love photography but sometimes it stumps me on how to do different techniques but that determination comes in handy because I refuse to give up on it just because it gets a little difficult. It is the one thing that I could always focus on when I needed something to channel my extra energies into.

So with this mother day I sent flowers to my mother to make her feel just a little bit as special as she is to me. With this blog post I wanted to tell her how much I do love her and thank her for all the sacrifices she made so that I can grow up healthy. I also wanted to give her a bouquet of flowers photographically.
