The other night I went to this wonderful theatre in Hobart, Tasmania. Did I say I am visiting friends in Tasmania? Yes I am and these friends are the ones that enlightened me to this great movie theatre. The people who own this theater have fixed it up to be quite unique. There are different areas in the building that house different theatres. We saw the “Life of Pi” in one room. It wasn’t a big room which made it all the more special. Beforehand we bought wine and some chocolate and were able to bring it in with us to have during the show. There were other snacks that could be bought in the lobby but popcorn was not one of them nor were there any of the usual candies that attract children but instead the snacks were geared more to adults with a sophisticated palette.

The chairs in the theater were very comfortable and everyone had a clear view. After the show we went to the cafe area to sit in leather chairs and critique the show we just saw. You can read one of the participants, Steven Swade,  critique at Swadeology

After our lively chat we went to the rooftop to check out the Rooftop Cinema where yet another movie was being shown. Just to aside, we did at a later date go and see the movie “Searching for Sugarman” which we saw on this very same rooftop. I don’t know if it was the ambiance of being under the stars, the wine that I had, the company I was with, the very comfortable deck chair I was in or even the much recommended movie I was watching but it was a night I won’t ever forget. I recommend you see this movie too if you haven’t seen it. Don’t worry if you can’t see it while under the stars like I did, I know you will enjoy the show all the same.

If you are ever in Hobart, Tasmania it would be well worth your time to check out the State Cinema  and if you need to know of a good place to have tea before the movie we went to a nice little place called “A Taste of Asia”   The curry was yummy and different degrees of hot were available. He also displays local artists on the walls which my good friend has had the opportunity to display hers. She was also one of the participants in our cinema group and was the one that was our tour guide, PJ of http://www.pjpaintings.com/
